Last Friday, Mya brought in her adorable, sweet cat, Monte. Thanks for bringing him in for a visit, Ryan and Laura!
On Monday, the women's basketball team from Freed-Hardeman, which is in Tennessee, came and visited with the kids about character. Their team is 33-0 and will be playing against Rocky Mountain College in the NAIA tournament at the Metra this weekend. I was impressed with their talk and they had great ideas for the kiddos!
The five "core values" that the athletes talked to us about were:
1) sportsmanship
2) integrity
3) responsibility
4) servant leadership
5) respect
This is what TOO MANY desks are looking like lately. So, don't be surprised to see an "N" on your child's report card in the area of "organizes materials and self."
Jackson rocked it in ST Math this week. Now he is onto the Challenge Level, which he is LOVING! ha!
What makes Travis quiet? A bag of Doritos or Cheetos :)
Avery and Jenna were twins on Monday (and HOT from P.E.)!
You made my week, Eden! Thank you so much!!!! Love you so much!
This week in reading, we will be on our "review" week for Wonders. We will actually start working on our hero reports, which will inspire our Wax Museum project. Some students already know about this from either siblings or buddy classes in the past. They will spend time researching a hero/leader of the past and then will "become" that person at our Wax Museum in May. This is my favorite project we do in third grade. I am anxious to see who the students choose to research and become!
In math, we will be starting Chapter 11, which will focus on finding perimeter and area. LOTS of students have already been exposed to this concept on ST Math, so they should catch on very quickly. Students will learn that perimeter is the area around a figure (add all the sides together) and area is the number of unit squares that covers a surface (to find the area, we use the formula: length x width).
In science, we will begin building compound machines with our Vex IQ kits (so far we have focus on simple machines like the inclined plane, lever, and pulley). A compound machine is made up of two or more simple machines.
A special shout out to Travis and Easton, who were my voice when I lost mine this week! Thanks for your help, boys! Also, thank you to TJ and Easton for the yummy (a cute) St. Patrick's Day treats!
Lastly, as some of you have heard by now: I am taking next year off from teaching to spend a year with Bennett. I am so excited to have a year devoted to my boy, but am also sad to say "goodbye" to the Arrowhead families that I have grown to love in my decade here. I hope to gain lots of pen pals and to keep in touch!
Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! I sure do love Spring!
Code Word = For the $100 bonus this week, please brainstorm 2-3 HEROES that your child might want to research for our Wax Museum project!
You will be missed! We have loved having you as a teacher.
