Open House
A HUGE thank you to those who attended Open House last night! I appreciate it very, very much!
If you were unable to attend Open House, I will send home the paperwork that I covered in your child's Tuesday folder. The papers include: Power School username and password (so you can check grades at home), Math book online information, your child's STAR reading level, information regarding our new Lead 21 reading series, and facts about our transition to Common Core standards.
Please let me know if you have any questions! Happy Friday! :)

Next Week's Agenda
What a great first three days together! I look forward to our first FULL week together next week. Here is what we will be learning about next week (August 27th - 31st):
Reading: Lead 21 Week 1. Our theme in reading this week will be "Common Ground: What brings people together?" We will also learn about determining an author's purpose and determining important information while reading.
Language: We will be studying the meaning of different prefixes and talking about synonyms and antonyms of our theme vocabulary words.
Spelling: Short Vowels
Science: We will begin our first unit: Populations and Ecosystems.
Social Studies: We will be reviewing our map skills by completing four different Geography Challenges! Fun!
Math: We will be learning about Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Circle Graphs, and Stem and Leaf plots (all in Chapter 5 of our textbooks). Hopefully we will have time to start our surveys, which will allow us to create our own graph!

Welcome back!
I simply cannot believe the day has arrived: the much anticipated first day of school! I am so excited to spend another year with this amazing group of students. We are going to learn a bunch and have tons of fun along the way.
On the first day of school, a plethora of papers will be coming home in need of your signature(s). Returning these in a timely manner would be greatly appreciated.
As always, please feel free to contact me via phone (281-6393), email (michelw@billingsschools.org), or appointment with any questions, concerns, or feedback. It is going to be a fabulous year! Thank you for raising such wonderful kids and sharing them with me for another year! :)
