Week of May 31st

The kiddos had a fun time with their Vex IQ kits this week. They are making machines for their Tiger Rescue project!

We celebrated TWO fabulous girls' birthdays this week. Happy Birthday, Karsyn and Mira! You are both SO special!

On Wednesday, after the awesome Black Light Show, we got to Skye with the owner of a monkey sanctuary in Florida. I learned a lot and enjoyed seeing the adorable monkeys.

This week we will be working on Cereal Box Book Reports. I always love how these turn out and let's us reflect on the books we have read this school year.

In math, we will be working more on equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. We will also be working on using math in the real world using money (hence the advertisements I asked you to send in).

In science, we will finish and present our tiger rescue projects. And in Social Studies we will finish our large U.S. map. This will help when students are required to learn all 50 states and their capitals in fourth grade.

Please remember to send in empty cereal boxes, ads, and any auction items. It is MUCH appreciated!

Have an awesome three-day weekend. I will see everyone on Tuesday, May 31st! :)

Field Day

Ty brought in a puzzle globe... He literally had the whole world in his hands :)

Carson collected some things for Bennett's spider habitat... Thanks, buddy! :)

This picture cracks me up... They all went in the "igloo" and Josiah was left behind! :)

Week of May 23rd

On Monday, we had the privilege of hearing from Josiah's dad, Joey! He talked about the importance of eating healthy (we should aim for only 20 grams of sugar per day) and staying active (check out seven minute workouts)! Thanks for motivating and making us smile Mr. Traywick! :)

On Tuesday, author and pilot, Andrea Coppik came and talked with all the third graders. She wrote the book Georgia Goes to Lunch, which she read to the students. I loved hearing her speak; what an inspiration to follow your dreams!

Recess fun! I sure am going to miss watching this group laugh and play!

Some students from the Career Center came and taught the students about the Immune System. It was neat to see the high schoolers' creativity in their games and books.

Most students (with the exception of a few) are DONE with their Smarter Balance Testing! Woo hoo! It was a looooong week for me, and I wasn't the one answering hours and hours worth of questions! Kuddos to my fabulous students for persevering and doing their very best!

This week we will continue on with Book Clubs and reviewing skills such as monitoring our comprehension, making connections, visualizing, and finding figurative language in our books.

In math, we will dig deeper into comparing and ordering fractions, which is Chapter 9 in our Go Math series.

In science, we will be making a compound machine (two simple machines combined) for PLTW.

On Tuesday, we will spend from 9-11 outside participating in Field Day. Thanks to Mr. Pertuit for organizing this FUN event! It is always one of my favorite days of the whole year.

Thank you to those parents who have taken the time to fill out and complete the survey I sent home. Your feedback is much appreciated!

Also, please keep your eyes peeled at home for "old" toys/games/items that could be donated to our Classroom Auction! The kids are getting excited to spend their money! :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I am looking forward to enjoying some much-needed sunshine!
