Wow! We made it through our first full five-day week with flying colors! I am enjoying getting to know this group and their fun personalities. Our one and only "challenge" thus far has been chatting during the appropriate times. With twenty-seven students and an open concept school, it is crucial that we are mindful of our noise level. Please remind your child that their JOB at school is to learn. And my job is to teach and prepare them for fourth grade. We never want to get in the way of someone else's learning because we are blurting out or talking while the teacher is teaching. Thanks for your help with this at home!
This week we get to celebrate the birthday of two very special girls: Eden and Ellecia! On a side-note, thank you to those who spoiled me on Wednesday for my birthday. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know. I was blessed with some VERY thoughtful families this year! :)
This week we will take a break with our normal reading schedule, as we will be completing our SRI reading test and our fall NWEA tests. Your child may bring gum or mints to have during testing. I've heard it helps the brain focus and work hard ;)
In math, we will continue on with Chapter 1. The students are doing a nice job with rounding and estimating sums. This week we will learn about mental math strategies for addition, the associate property of addition, and using the break apart strategy when adding bigger numbers.
In science, we will discuss and learn about the four forces of flight. By the end of the week, your child should confidently know about thrust, lift, drag, and weight.
In social studies, we will keep reviewing different map skills before moving on to Chapter 2.
Please join me for Open House on Thursday. There are two presentations: 6:00 and 6:30. To those of you that are new to Arrowhead, this is for parents only. If you are unable to make it, please send me an email and I will send some of the paperwork home with your child and answer any questions you may have.
Enjoy your three day weekend!
