We got our PLTW Vex IQ kits out and organized (they are similar to Legos). We will start building some simple machines next week!
I had to take a picture of Karsyn's shirt, since my husband is from Forsyth. Go Dogies! :)
Tavie is doing Betsy Ross for the Wax Museum and made a neat Lego flag at home. Love your creativity, Tavie!
We all thought of a certain classmate when we read this part in The BFG! :) And I think we are all excited to go see the play at the Alberta Bair on Tuesday.
Those are just some random inspiring/thought-provoking quotes I saw this week...
Here is a quick run-down on next week's objectives:
In reading we will continue on with Unit 6: Extreme Environments. This weeks theme vocabulary words are compete, food chain, and affect. We will finish the story Living in the Extreme. Last week we read about some interesting "extremes" around the world, including the Dead Sea, alpine biomes, the bottom of the ocean, and the Sahara Desert. This week we will focus on the skills of idioms, monitoring comprehension, comparing and contrasting, and noun suffixes.
In math, we will finish Chapter 8: Fractions and take a brief assessment. Some of the fraction concepts are tricky, but I am impressed at how well the students are doing. The third grade team decided to skip Chapter 9 (for now) and go straight to Chapter 10, which will expose students to telling time, measurement/length, area/volume, and other geometry concepts before we take our Spring NWEA and SmarterBalance tests in May.
In science we will build an inclined plane with our Vex IQ kits. And in Social Studies we will continue to work on our Hero poster, speech, and button for the Wax Museum. Thank you for all your help at home with this project. Don't forget to mark your calendars for Friday, March 18th!! Siblings and grandparents are welcome to come, too!
Have a fabulous weekend! Thanks for sharing these awesome, funny, lovely "human beans" with me every week!
